Al-Abani was born in the Libyan city of Petrhuna in 1946
He was initially influenced by the Bedouin environment and the visual legacy of folk heritage. Al-Abani's works are the reflections of changes and modifications caused to the landscapes. His technique seeks to explore lyrical and spiritual realms.
He graduated (with honrs) from the Academy of Art in Rome in 1979. -After his graduation he worked for two years as the curator of the fine arts department in the Ministry of Culture in Libya.
He was also the general-director of the Department of Literature and Fine Arts in the Libyan Ministry of Culture, the director of the Al-Fateh Cultural Complex (Planetarium).
He is currently board member of the General Council of Culture (the supreme council of culture) in Libya.
He published the book "Melody of Natural Abstract", which was issued by Darul-Funon Print and Publishing House.
The Libyan artist was represented in many art exhibitions held in Europe, Asia, Africa, the US and Latin America.
He staged many solo shows in Libya, Malta, Italy, France, Germany, Tunisia, Austria, Switzerland and Lebanon.
Al-Abadi experiments with photography. He writes in different newspapers and art journals.
