was born in 1856 in the Netherlands. He studied at the
Academy of Fine Art Rotterdam. Ilegn experimented with surrealism
and constructionism to find an idiosyncrasy in his
own work in a combination of geometry and gesture, both in
sculptures and in paintings. He gave lectures and exhibited
widely in Europe, USA, Japan, Korea and Australia. In 1986
he initiated the internationally active PRO Foundation, which
originally focused on constructive art and architecture. Since
the early 1990’s this non-profit organisation has focused on
the analogies between art, science and philosophy. He travels
and exhibits widely and regularly in Europe, the US and
Asia. The sculptures and paintings, in which a sensitive use of
colours and materials is essential, are typical for their beauty
caused by the openness and complex simulations of movement.
Ilgen currently calls his search, a search for “New Baroque”,
which results from his interest in both accidental and
oriental cultures and philosophies. These interests led to his
first theory book “Art? No Thing! Analogies between art, science
and philosophy:, 2004. His artistic development is published
in the book “Ilgen-The Search:, 2001. Ilgen acquired a
vast experience in site specific artworks, both for private as
.well as for public or corporate environments
