Buthayna Ali Buthayna Ali
Syria Syria

Born in Damascus, in 1974.
Lives and works between Canada and Syria.

After studying Fine Arts at the University of Damascus, Syria, Buthayna moved to Paris for her graduate studies to obtain a Diploma in painting from the Superior National School of Fine Arts of Paris (ENSB-A) along with a Masters degree (DEA) in History of Islamic Art from Paris IV Sorbonne University, Paris.
Buthayna Ali taught painting at the faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus, Syria. For 6 years.
In all her art works, she focuses on the contradiction of her milieu; one can strongly sense her desire of getting closer to the society, its states, its concerns and its inconsistencies.
Her work of art is purely related to the physical as well as mental experience of the space within the work it self.
Her target is for people to interact with art work.
It is a trial to break down many barriers, like the one between people and a classical work of art.
She has recently exhibited her work in a Collective exhibitions Traversées ArtParis, France (2008), Darat AlFunun Amman , Jordan (2007), 10th Istanbul Biennale, Turkey (2007), Vote Video installation workshops Damascus, Syria (2007), Marionette (Sexy Souks in Point Ephémère) Paris, France (2007), Europe art Geneva, Switzerland (2006), We installation in the Alrywak Gallery, Damascus, Syria (2006), Collective exhibition in Brunei Gallery, London, UK (2004), 4,3,2..Cinema installation workshops Goethe institute Damascus, Syria (2003), Promises installation in Atassi Gallery, Damascus, Syria (2003),Tent installation in the National Museum, Damascus, Syria, (2002)
